It is amazing that after medical schools have been in existence for decades, that there still is no tangible, scientific, medical school specific evidence based information that medical students can use to figure out how to effectively learn and retain the voluminous amount of information presented to them. Why is the first portion of medical school such a huge shock to so many students? This is the question that I have personally overheard many first and second year medical students asking themselves, each other and their instructors. Unfortunately, the responses are few and far in between. Whilst attaining a perfect 4.0 in medical school is very attractive, we all know that it is not always possible. Nevertheless, this does not mean that medical students do not want to do their best. Should we turn to other professions to find out how they have figured this dilemna out? The volume of material presented in medical school is truly breathtaking when at the end of the second week you are faced with 30 powerpoint presentations to review over the weekend.

What can medical schools do to assist first year students in determining their most effective medical school learning style?
